SAGE acquires Talis and new journal
SAGE Publishing has acquired the technology company Talis and its enterprise teaching and learning platform Talis Aspire, whose resource list management system is currently used by more than a million students at over a hundred institutions across eight countries. Talis will continue to be run by its existing management team; SAGE describes the move as marking an important step beyond content towards providing technology solutions to support teaching, learning and research in higher education institutions. The company has also announced a partnership with the Foundation for Gender-Specific Medicine to publish the new open access title Gender and the Genome.
Digital Science launches new one-click access solution
Digital Science has launched Anywhere Access, providing one-click access to millions of full-text scholarly articles through a managed cloud-based solution. Using single sign-on to allow access to authenticated users on- and off-campus, the service aims to drive down usage of ‘rogue’ sites by providing quicker and easier legitimate access to articles; it offers publishers potential new revenue streams, along with additional usage and purchase data, captured at customer and journal level, through its integrated Document Delivery Service.
Appointments at Springer Nature, Clarivate, CABI, and Kudos
Springer Nature has announced two new appointments. Dr Suzanne Farley, formerly Executive Editor for Scientific Reports, will take up a newly-created position as Research Integrity Director, leading the Springer Nature Research Integrity Group, which will provide support and advice on best practice and ethical conduct in research, along with evaluating the publisher’s editorial practices and policies. Meanwhile, Andy Douglas rejoins the company after four years at Wolters Kluwer to take up a role as VP Commercial for Nature Research, responsible for sales and marketing across all of Nature Research’s client marketing and researcher services.
Timothy Neely has joined Clarivate Analytics as its new Managing Director for Japan, where he will focus on driving growth strategy; he has previously held leadership positions at KPMG, IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI) has appointed Dr Andrew Robinson as its new Managing Director for Publishing. Robinson joins from Wiley, where he spent 25 years in several roles, most recently as Senior Vice President and Managing Director for Society Services and Research.
Kudos has appointed Rosie Collins as its new Academic Outreach Manager; Collins was previously a Research Development Manager at the University of Westminster.

Wiley has announced a new online platform for its Cochrane Library, published in partnership with the independent global Cochrane network of health researchers, professionals, patients, and carers. Developed by Highwire, the platform offers an improved user experience in languages other than English, plus enhancements in design and functionality.
This year’s Peer Review Week, the fourth, will be taking place from 10-15 September, and aims to encourage a global discussion about diversity and inclusion in peer review. Resources are available to support anyone planning their own event, in the form of a downloadable Event in a Box package.
Georg Thieme Publishers and the synthetic methodology reference work Science of Synthesis have launched the Dr. Margaret Faul Award for Women in Chemistry, honouring women scientists within the first 15 years of their independent career who have made a significant contribution to synthetic chemistry. Nominations close on 14 December, and the first award will be made at the European Symposium on Organic Chemistry in July 2019.
ProQuest company Ex Libris has acquired *Research, whose coverage of funding opportunities across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand will complement its existing set of tools for North America.
