Entries open for The LBF International Excellence Awards 2017

[LONDON/FRANKFURT Wednesday 19 October]: The London Book Fair (LBF), in association with The UK Publishers Association (The PA) has launched the hunt for the best people in international rights as the eminent LBF International Excellence Awards 2017 introduces its first ever Rights Professional of the Year award.

The awards, which opened online submissions today, are sponsored by Hytex. Now in their fourth year the awards celebrate publishing success in 16 categories, representing the best publishing ambassadors, cutting edge publishing, and ground breaking initiatives in the industry. Awards are given to companies and individuals across the world and across sectors, with categories including Bookstore of the Year, Literary Agent and Brand Licensing.

Companies or individuals can enter the awards via the LBF website by Thursday 15 December 2016. Publishers are also encouraged to nominate companies or individuals who they feel deserve to be recognised for outstanding achievement in publishing this year.

Jacks Thomas, Director of The London Book Fair, said: “Since we launched them in 2014, the awards have been a personal LBF highlight of mine. It is brilliant that this year we are introducing the Rights Professional Award and we are looking forward to receiving the nominees from all corners of the globe. Each year, the winners and shortlist are always inspiring and diverse; from Readings Australia – the first bookstore of the year – to the educational publisher SuperMemo Poland the awards look across the publishing eco-system and celebrate its innovation and breadth.

Stephen Lotinga, Chief Executive, the UK Publishers Association, said: “The trading of rights is integral to the dissemination of published works around the world, providing access to educational resources, research and stories. Rights trading facilitates the ability to enjoy published works in a wide variety of formats, languages and media. Rights professionals are vital to the publishing industry and I’m delighted that we are able to recognise this important role within the array of excellence awards.”

Lucy Vanderbilt, Group Rights Director, HarperCollins and judge for Rights Professional Award, said: “Rights people are at the hub of international publishing, working tirelessly to reach readers and build and maintain relationships no matter where.  Selling rights requires world-class communication skills and considerable finesse, as well as strategic thinking, impeccable attention to detail, and a genuine passion for the books we sell. I’m delighted to have the chance to acknowledge the contribution made by some of the best rights people working outside of the UK.”

The Awards are the UK’s recognition of international publishing industry excellence. They have been designed to celebrate achievement across the entire business of publishing.
