LBF to Host Books, Brexit & Brits Debate  at Book Expo America

Panel to Give Delegates an Insight into the Current Opportunities within the UK Publishing Market

 

 

 

 

London, 26 May 2017: The London Book Fair has announced it will be hosting a Books, Brexit and Brits debate at Book Expo America, giving delegates an insight into publishing and the wider creative industries in the UK, and the potential implications of Brexit.

The debate – Books, Brexit and Brits: Creativity across continents; content across media – opportunities in a fast-changing world – will take place on Friday 2 June, 11-11:50am.

 

Books, Brexit and Brits will see leading industry professionals and authors come together to discuss the opportunities for publishers in a world where change is constant.

 

The panel will examine whether keeping creativity at the heart of all business activities will help the creative industries to survive and thrive, and argue that publishing is best placed of all creative industries to embrace and profit from emerging opportunities in a constantly changing world.

 

The panel will be moderated by Jacks Thomas, Director of The London Book Fair. Speakers will include: Emma House, Director of Publisher Relations at the UK Publishers Association; Lisa Sharkey, SVP and director of creative development at HarperCollins Worldwide; NY Times #1 bestselling author of Orphan Train author Christina Barker Kline; and film producer, CEO of Women in Film and TV, and President of Production at Locomotive Media, Alexis Alexanian.

Jacks Thomas

Jacks Thomas joined The London Book Fair as Director in 2013. Her role includes the ongoing development of the Fair as the leading marketplace for rights trading and the sale and distribution of content across geographies and platforms. In the past two years, the book fair has extended its reach into Film, TV, Video Gaming and Brand Licensing as well as launching its consumer-facing brand, London Book & Screen Week in 2015. Prior to joining LBF, Jacks was CEO and Partner of Top 50 Communications agency, Midas; European Director of Corporate Communications and Strategic Planning Reader’s Digest;  Marketing and PR Director, Simon & Schuster and held various roles within trade publishing. Emma House

Emma House, Director of Publisher Relations, UK Publishers Association, is a specialist in the Book and Journal Publishing arena with over 13 years’ experience in book publishing and 6 years in magazine publishing. She runs the PA’s Boards on all aspects of publishing – Academic/STM, Education, Trade/Consumer and International. She liaises with external partners and suppliers and oversee industry related projects and campaigns. Emma also runs the PA anti-piracy enforcement campaigns in overseas territories and develops overseas business opportunities for UK publishers. Prior to this Emma worked for 7 years at The London Book Fair developing the international presence and programming.

 

Lisa Sharkey

Lisa is SVP and director of creative development for HarperCollins Publishers worldwide. For the past decade, Lisa and her team have overseen the acquisition of high profile non-fiction books across all imprints in both adult and children’s divisions resulting in dozens of New York Times Bestsellers.

 

Lisa also manages all video production for the general books group and created the Book Studio 16 brand, which produces daily Facebook Live Programming for authors, HarperCollins pros, and America’s vast network of independent bookstores.

 

Christina Baker Kline

Christina is the author of Instant New York Times bestseller A Piece of the World (2017), about the relationship between the artist Andrew Wyeth and the subject of his best-known painting, Christina’s World. Kline has written five other novels — Orphan TrainOrphan Train GirlThe Way Life Should BeSweet WaterBird in Hand, and Desire Lines — and written or edited five works of nonfiction.

Christina has commissioned and edited two l essays on parenthood, edited a book on grieving,  co-editor of a collection of personal essays called About Face: Women Write About What They See When They Look in the Mirror, and is co-author of a book on feminist mothers and daughters The Conversation Begins. Her essays, articles, and reviews have appeared in The New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Money, More, and Psychology Today, among other places.

 

Alexis Alexanian

Alexis Alexanian is an American independent film producer and President of New York Women in Film & Television.

 

Alexis started her career in production on larger budget studio films from Mississippi Burning to Jacob’s Ladder, A League of Their Own and Striptease, and was named as one of Variety’s “10 Producers to Watch” in May 2002.

 

Alexis is CEO of Women in Film and TV, and President of Production at Locomotive Media.
