5 Minute Interview with Janet Fritsch

Janet Fritsch has more than 40 years of experience helping to build global relationships between publishers by promoting U.S. publishers at International and U.S. Book Fairs. Her cooperative businesses, The American Collective Stand, Inc., and The Combined Book Exhibit, Inc., have been serving the publishing industry since 1973 and 1933 respectively. Both companies provide exhibiting services which help to facilitate the exchange of business ideas and promote U.S. publishing companies abroad.

What was the last book you read?

Eliza Hamilton, The Extraordinary Life and Times of the Wife of Alexander Hamilton by Tilar J. Mazzeo

How did you buy it?

It was an ARC – picked it up at the American Library Association Conference from the Simon & Schuster booth.

And what did you read it on?

The nice paper it was written on.

What TV series are you obsessing over right now?

Old House, M.D. shows, but desperately waiting for the next HBO season of Big Little Lies!

What do you like about your job?

The people I meet.

What was your first job?

Shoe Sales Person in a Thom McAn Shoe Store (yes, that is how old I am!)

And your first in the book industry?

Straight out of college – The Combined Book Exhibit.

What is the silliest thing you have on your desk?

A miniature of a toy slide that a dragon goes down from a GIANT Kinder egg from Germany.

Tell us about a passion you have outside the business.

The Ann Arbor PTO Thrift Shop – all proceeds go to the Ann Arbor Public School Students for extracurricular activities.

1975

What piece of advice would you give first-timers at the Fair?

Plan ahead, know what you want to achieve…and ENJOY!
