New ‘Data-driven’ conference welcomes new media pioneer Bill Thompson and digital publishing strategist Alison Jones as conference chairs.
NEWS FOR RELEASE, LONDON, 16 November 2015: The London Book Fair refreshes its Monday conference, Quantum: Publishing & So Much More, which will deliver a data-driven overview of the global publishing industry and its place in the wider content industries in association with the UK Publishers Association.
Quantum: Publishing & So Much More will succeed Publishing for Digital Minds as the conference that launches The London Book Fair, taking place on Monday 11 April at Olympia Conference Centre, London. The name was selected in recognition of how recent developments at the leading edge of science and technology have taken us to a new stage of development: the Quantum Age.
Quantum will offer delegates an unmissable blend of new insight, research and networking in a new context where digital and physical coexist harmoniously. It will continue in The London Book Fair conference’s tradition of presenting keynote speakers drawn from the very top of the book, media and technology sectors. Reflecting the increasingly global reach of publishing and the digital channels publishers use to communicate, Quantum will also continue to lead the way in making innovative use of social media, such as in 2015’s Virtual Conference and multilingual social media programme.
Quantum agrees research collaboration with Nielsen
To deliver the level of insight and industry data that publishing conference delegates increasingly value, The London Book Fair has also agreed a collaboration with Nielsen that will see it present research on the global publishing industry at Quantum. Nielsen’s research activities across the media will add further value to delegates, providing data to support the content of individual conference sessions.
Bill Thompson and Alison Jones announced as conference chairs New media pioneer Bill Thompson and digital publishing strategist Alison Jones will chair Quantum – bringing together their formidable experience and insight to the programme line-up.
Bill Thompson is a well-known technology critic and commentator on digital culture. A pioneer of new media in the UK, Bill was Internet ambassador for PIPEX in the early 1990s and founded The Guardian’s New Media Lab in 1995, setting up and editing the first Guardian website.
These days Bill appears weekly on BBC World Service and has a column on BBC News Online as well as contributing to The Guardian and The New Statesman. Alison Jones is a publisher, content consultant and executive coach who has pioneered digital publishing over a 23 year career with top publishing companies including Oxford University Press and Palgrave Macmillan.
