The London Book Fair launches the Children’s Innovation Theatre

The London Book Fair, in association with Once Upon a Bookcase, is proud to announce the re-launch of the Children’s Innovation Theatre. The events programme situated in the heart of the Children’s Zone will explore the most innovative and impressive developments that have helped the sector to flourish. 
The Children’s Innovation Theatre will showcase new media and online community projects, publishers reinventing traditional tools to engage a new generation of readers, and those finding new ways of promoting literacy.
The 30 minute, free-to-attend sessions is intended to be a platform to showcase individual successes and achievements and to give tomorrow’s leaders in children’s publishing  a voice. Sessions include:

• Sarah Benson, Head of Marketing, Hot Key Books on The Story Adventure: an interactive writing experience involving 2,500 children
• Joanna Rose and Felicity Johnston of Orion on conceptualising and launching the  Early Readers Initiative
• Representatives from Random House Children’s Books, The Reading Agency, Sony and Movella on The Young Movellist of the Year Prize
• Booki MD, Ed Franklin on the Digital Generation and the future of storytelling
• Nina Douglas, Orion, and Kathryn McKenna, Simon & Schuster, joined by bloggers Jo Stapley (Once Upon a BookCase) and Casey Davoren (DarkReads) on the emergence of bloggers and their importance to children’s book publicity

The Children’s Innovation Theatre will also host a special Illustrator’s Afternoon on Wednesday 17 April from 2-4pm. This event, in collaboration with Illustration Magazine and The Pittville Press at the University of Gloucestershire, will focus on illustration for children’s publishing and provide illustration students and practising illustrators the opportunity to meet art directors from Orion, Igloo Books and Little Tiger Press. The event will include a panel discussion chaired by Edward Nawotka, Editor of Publishing Perspectives, on all aspects of children’s publishing and illustration followed by speed-dating sessions for illustration graduate students and emerging illustrators.

Children’s publishers have always played a crucial role in The London Book Fair, and this year’s programme of events hopes to celebrate this more than ever.   The Children’s Innovation Theatre is part of The London Book Fair’s most exciting and thought-provoking children’s seminar programme to date. The Love Learning Programme’s children’s seminars will feature the highest calibre speakers, from authors and publishers to professionals from across the media will gather to discuss the most innovative and impressive developments within the industry.
